First looks are becoming more and more popular,  and many couples consider if they should follow the traditional path or plan to have a first look as part of their wedding day photography.  It’s certainly a personal choice, and one that can only be made by the bride and groom.

So what exactly is the first look, and what are the benefits?  The first look is a planned special time before the ceremony in which the bride and groom see each other for the first time.

Unlike seeing each other for the first time at the altar, the first look allows for a private time where you can hug each other, laugh, cry, love on one another, and say out loud how much you adore each other.  I love to document first looks and capture the raw emotion and engagement that a bride and groom express when they see each other for the first time.

 

The first look adds another layer of anticipation just before the ceremony, that says yes, this is the day that I say I do to my love.  I always give couples time to just experience the moment of seeing each other.

Because the first look is typically two-three hours before the ceremony, another benefit is having part of this time dedicated for bridal party photos as well as family formals before the ceremony.   Having a first look will allow you to join your family and friends during cocktail hour, or enjoy a receiving line of congratulatory hugs and kisses after your ceremony.
