If you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, never in a million years would I have said a wedding photographer. When I submitted my one and only college application, yes I only applied to one college, I was initially leaning towards business. I’m shaking my head and saying wow after typing that. Another option that I considered was becoming a JAG attorney in the military–are you shocked right now?!
Fast forward to getting married, having kids, and then this desire of wanting to show them pictures of myself and my husband when we were little and growing up and then pictures of other big moments in our life like our wedding day lit a fire in me. We had some pictures, but not a complete story. We had some smile and look at the camera school pictures, but still not a complete story. We had some pictures of us smiling and looking at the camera on our wedding day, but still not a complete story.
I wanted to show them more. I wanted to see more.
When I have my oh my goodness moments when I’m behind my camera, it melts my heart every time to know that these two beautiful people who love each other will have a complete story of one of the most joyful days in their life. It melts my heart every time when I photograph a wedding, I know that a bride will get to see in a picture and remember the way that her husband made her feel when he looked into her eyes and vowed to love, protect, and honor her.
It melts my heart when I know that this bride’s father passed away before being able to walk his beautiful daughter down the aisle. This moment between her and her mom, surrounded by her sisters is indescribable because of what her mom means to her. I love this.
It melts my heart every time when this contagious joy spills out from a mother daughter bond that illuminates a room and becomes a tangible picture that makes you feel how much they love each other.
Life has many twists and turns, and I am so thankful that my ever winding path led me to heart melting stories and moments that I get to give and be a part of.
Thanks for letting me share, and I really did only apply to one college.
Have a great day!
