If you’ve been in business for more than a year or so, you know how important marketing is. Your brand can be beautiful. You might even have a great offer. But if you don’t know how to position your brand to stand out in a sea of competitors, you’ll be the best-kept secret of your industry.
A few years ago, I began to shift my business to become a branding strategist and business coach for women entrepreneurs. So many women in my community needed support learning how to not just show up online—but show up in a way that would help them stand out to their ideal clients.
I knew I would need to effectively communicate this pivot in my business, and start marketing my new services seamlessly. Among other changes, I needed to:
- Generate a new website wireframe with magnetic messaging
- Refocus on growing my brand awareness during what promised to be a particularly challenging year
- Leverage my 8 years of entrepreneurial experience & reposition myself as an expert in branding and business growth strategy as a whole
- Generate offers at the beginning of my value ladder that I could use to help women entrepreneurs take their business to the next level
It sounded like a lot on paper. But I knew if I broke it down into a series of actionable steps, I’d be on my way to marketing myself effectively & attracting the right clients in no time.
If you’re ready to get serious about your marketing but feeling overwhelmed—the same will be true for you. Here’s a step-by-step plan you can follow to start marketing your business with confidence.
How to Confidently & Effectively Market Your Business
STEP ONE: Identify Your Target Audience & Get Clear On the Problem You Solve For Them.
Your ideal client needs to be able to show up on your page, website, etc., and instantly understand how you can help them.
If you’re not sure what problem you solve, ask yourself: What roadblock is getting in their way? How does your business help them overcome this roadblock?
STEP TWO: Clarify Your Message & Position Your Brand As the Guide.
Once you’ve identified your target audience, the next step to clarifying your brand message is figuring out exactly how to effectively communicate your messaging. Clarifying your brand message ensures that everything you share will speak directly to your ideal client.
STEP THREE: Create a marketing plan.
Years ago, I bought an ad with an advertiser who gave me some great advice. She pointed out that the ad wasn’t the only thing I’d need to market my business—that I’d need to fill up a few other buckets.
The same is true for you. Unless you have tons of money to spend on ads, I’d encourage you to create a more comprehensive marketing plan for your business. Doing so will help you generate quality leads, consistently share the problem you solve for your ideal clients, grow your business, and become more known in your industry.
