What’s my favorite venue?
I always pause whenever I’m asked about my favorite Boston area venue. It’s really hard to choose a favorite because every venue has something special that makes it different. Sometimes it’s the view, the interior decor, the outdoor ceremony options, the tent, the beach, the barn, the ballroom, or the amazing staff. There are lots of things to consider when choosing your wedding venue in the Boston area.
When I arrive at a venue, lighting is one of the most important things that I consider from a photography perspective.
Choosing a venue is similar to finding a home.
You have your list, and then do your best to find everything on your list, knowing that might not be possible.
Because I love checklists, I’m sharing one with you today that includes a few things to consider when choosing your wedding venue from a photography perspective.
Here are a few:
- How early can you arrive at the venue? If you’re considering using the venue’s bridal suite to step into your gown and then have your first look, you’ll need a minimum of two hours before the ceremony.
- Are there additional costs to arrive early? You will want to know this so you can make a note as you plan out the logistics of your day.
- Want an outdoor ceremony? Will your guests need sunglasses? Will you be standing in harsh light during the actual ceremony? Consider the time of the day for your ceremony which will vary based on the seasons. A winter wedding might mean it’s dark by 4 pm. If you’re able to talk to your photographer before you decide on your ceremony time, they would be able to guide you with the best options.
- Are there several different locations available? Are there spots for your first look? Can you fit your entire family into a few photos, somewhere on the property?
Although you’ll be looking at the overall feel of the venue, how many people it can accommodate, availability and pricing. It’s important to also consider the photography implications when checking out your venue options.
