If you’ve been in business for more than a year or so, I’m sure you know the importance of marketing. Getting your name out there is critical if you have a brick-and-mortar location or an online business.
But if you’re like many small business owners, you may be asking yourself a few questions.
Where to start without breaking the bank?
What’s the best way to reach your target clients?
How can you ensure you get the biggest bang for your time and resources?
These are all important questions, and I want to share why organic marketing might be a great solution.
When I took the leap to take my part-time photography business full-time, I was excited and scared at the same time.
I had a few clients but no strategy to market my business and generate leads.
So, I decided to do what I saw other photographers in my industry do – invest in an ad.
I thought this would be my golden ticket. Clients would just come pouring in.
However, after one month of running the ad and no leads coming through, I started getting worried. My small business couldn’t afford such a large expense with no return on investment!
That’s when I remembered something that stuck with me from the conversation with my sales rep: “Don’t forget that you’ll need to fill all of your marketing buckets.”
It was then that I realized that if I wanted to generate leads and grow my business, I would need more than one ad.
Traditional advertising can be expensive. Thankfully, there are ways to market your business organically—for free—and grow your business.
What Is Organic Marketing?
Organic marketing involves unpaid strategies to reach your target audience, increase brand awareness, build relationships with potential customers, generate high-quality leads, and convert those leads into sales.
Organic marketing is one of the most effective ways for small businesses to market their business without breaking the bank. It also helps to build your brand’s trust by creating meaningful connections that last over time instead of focusing on short-term sales goals as most paid ads do.
What Does Organic Marketing Mean For Your Business?
When it comes to organic marketing, there are several key strategies to keep in mind. Let’s take a look at some of the best marketing strategies for small business owners I recommend to clients inside my Brand and Visibility Accelerator and have used them in my own business.
Social Media
Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest offer an amazing opportunity to reach your target audience without spending any money. Posting content regularly and consistently, engaging with your audience, and responding to comments will help you build relationships with existing and potential customers and increase brand visibility. What kind of content should you create? Keep reading below…
Content Creation
Content creation is another way to market your business organically. The key is to focus on high-quality content that will provide value to your target audience. Creating content such as blog posts and videos helps you establish yourself as an expert in your industry while driving traffic back to your website and building relationships with potential customers. Content creation takes time, but it has been proven effective in helping businesses grow their online presence over time.
Pro-tip – Set aside at least one-two hours per week to generate one piece of long-form content that can be repurposed for social media posts, Instagram Reels, YouTube videos, and more!
SEO
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a great way for small business owners to reach their target audience because it helps your website or blog show up in search results when people look for keywords and phrases related to your business. I’m not an SEO specialist, but I highly recommend using free SEO tools or working with someone who specializes in SEO.
Blogging
Blogging can be a great way to reach your target audience and increase website traffic simultaneously. It’s also an effective way to build trust with potential customers by providing helpful and valuable content. You can share how-tos, and tutorials, tips, and take your audience behind the scenes. There are so many different topics that you can blog about.
Blogging regularly helps you establish yourself as an expert in your industry while driving more organic traffic to your website.
Your blog can also be a home base for all your long-form content. Your blog posts are evergreen, meaning they can continue to drive traffic back to your website long after you initially published them.
Networking
Connecting with people in your industry and networking with other small business owners will help you build a strong network that can potentially lead to new business opportunities. This could look like having a Zoom coffee connection, attending a networking event, hosting an event in your space, or joining a local chamber of commerce. Don’t underestimate the power of networking and building relationships offline!
Organic marketing has the power to reach people who may have never heard of your brand before. It is one of the most effective ways for small businesses to reach new customers without spending money on ads.
And yes, organic marketing takes time, but with a little effort and creativity, organic marketing strategies can pay huge dividends down the road when it comes time for customers to choose your brand!
