Have you ever strolled into your favorite home decor store in the middle of July, and a few feet away, you see all things pumpkin spice and fall decorations.
You can’t help but wonder what this store is thinking. It’s the middle of summer, and they’re already pushing fall decor. Do they not realize that people are still enjoying summer? Or do they know something that we don’t?
Just like our favorite home decor store, as a small business owner, you always have to be thinking ahead. What are your goals for the month? What needs to be done in order to reach those goals?
Start with your yearly business goals
For example, if your goal is to increase sales by 10%, you might need to focus on marketing efforts. This could involve planning and executing a marketing campaign, or it could simply mean making sure that your website is updated and easy to navigate.
No matter what your goals are, it’s important to have a plan in place to help you achieve them. By thinking ahead and being proactive, you can ensure that your small business is always moving in the right direction.
I have a simple process that I follow to plan out my month.
How to plan your month for maximum productivity
The first step is to start with my yearly goals. By looking at the big picture, I can make sure that I’m staying on track and meeting my goals.
My marketing strategy does the heavy lifting for me. I start with figuring out my content plan. I rely on my SEO strategy, combined with SEO research tools, and I’m also looking at my KPIs in several areas to determine what my content plan will be. I use data to help create content that is helpful and that my audience enjoys.
I also want to look at my month ahead to see what’s already scheduled. Commitments that are already scheduled. Family vacations, personal appointments… all of these things will impact my work schedule for the month.
Once I have a clear idea of what my availability is, I can start mapping out my month.
By setting clear goals and planning ahead, I can ensure that I’m making the most of my time – and achieving the results I’m looking for.
