Niching down when there are so many things to love about what you do can be a huge challenge for business owners.
I faced this challenge myself when I was starting my business.
One thing that I’d tell my just-starting-a-business self, was that my lack of a niche was making it harder for me to grow. I was struggling to build a brand or develop a reputation because I wasn’t known for any one thing … I was, in most folks’ eyes, just another photographer. I needed to specialize if I wanted to become known.
It was hard to choose one thing because I loved everything. Wait until you hear all of my choices–YIKES!
Three other limiting factors that were on my list:
The fear of limiting myself, I wasn’t ready to choose an area of specialization, and I didn’t know how or where to start.
What I didn’t know…
There is tremendous value in finding your brand’s niche.
Choosing a niche doesn’t mean you can’t ever offer any service or serve any client outside your niche. It simply means you’re choosing to become known for your expertise in one particular area of your market, specialize in that one thing, and do it well.
