What if the stories you tell are the part of your brand people remember—even when they forget everything else?

When I first started my business, I believed that getting the “right” logo, brand colors, and website would bring in the right clients. But even with all of those pieces in place, something felt… off. I wasn’t attracting the kind of clients I truly wanted to work with.

Then everything changed.

I started sharing stories.

Not to go viral.
Not to impress the algorithm.
But to connect.

Because when you share the right kinds of stories, something powerful happens. Your content stops just being seen—it starts being felt. You begin building trust. Resonance. And you stop sounding like everyone else.

That one shift transformed my business—and how I show up in it.

When I First Learned the Power of Story

Back when I was a wedding photographer, I focused on sharing beautiful photos with kind captions. And while people liked the images, they didn’t connect. Something was missing.

One day, I tried something new. I told the couple’s story alongside the photos. Their journey, the quiet moments they shared, the way her dad looked at her just before she walked down the aisle.

That post? It didn’t just get likes. It got heartfelt responses.

The couple reached out with gratitude. Their family and friends commented about how it moved them to tears. They felt seen.

And I realized—it wasn’t about the photos. It was about the meaning behind them.

That was the moment I understood the power of storytelling. And I’ve been writing and sharing stories ever since.

3 Stories Every Brand Needs to Tell

After years of working with women entrepreneurs, especially through my On Brand, On Purpose sessions, I’ve found that three types of stories make the biggest impact on your brand:

1. Your Why Story

Why you started. What drives you. Why you care about the people you serve.

This isn’t about having a dramatic backstory. It’s about sharing your truth. Your why helps your audience feel something. It reveals your values, your heart, and your deeper mission. And when you share it—not just once, but often—it reminds people why you are the one they want to work with.

Because even if there are a million people who do what you do, no one else carries your exact story. That’s your edge. That’s your magnet.

2. Your Experience Story

These are the everyday, seemingly small moments that shape how you see the world—and the work you do.

One of my favorite experience stories is about planting zinnias. I wasn’t sure they’d grow. Days went by with no sign of life, and I started to doubt. Then, one morning, tiny green shoots appeared.

That moment reminded me: growth often happens beneath the surface. Just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not working.

That’s the kind of story that helps your audience feel less alone in their journey—and more connected to yours.

I always encourage clients to write down moments from their day that spark a feeling or lesson. Whether it’s from gardening, client calls, or something your child says—there’s a story there. Your job is to find it, shape it, and share it.

3. Your Transformation Story

This is the story of how your work helped someone create change.

It’s my favorite kind of story to share—because seeing transformation in my clients is why I do what I do. Whether it’s a new level of confidence, a business breakthrough, or a deeper sense of alignment, these stories show what’s possible.

When you tell transformation stories, your audience sees themselves in them. And that’s the moment where connection becomes conversion.

What to Do Next

I want to leave you with a gentle challenge:

🌿 Think back to a recent moment that made you pause, reflect, or learn something new.
📝 Write it down.
💡 Ask yourself: “How could this help someone else?”
📣 Then share it—on social, in an email, or even a conversation.

Because your story could be exactly what someone else needs to hear right now.

And remember—your brand isn’t just about what you offer. It’s about how you make people feel. That’s the real magic of storytelling.
