Shifting Your Brand to Become More Aligned

Two years ago, we woke up to a little bit of water in our basement. No big deal. We just pulled out our small wet vac, cleaned it up, and we were done.

… Or so we thought.

Then spring came along. And that little bit of water? It turned into a LOT of water. We ripped out our carpet and started looking for the right person to help us solve the problem.

We talked to a plumber. A drain cleaner. A well specialist. A foundation repair company. A general contractor. We even talked to a landscaper—because who knows, maybe the patio was to blame!

After consulting with just about every repair/construction specialist in our area, we eventually determined that there were cracks in our foundation that must have been letting water in. So we sealed up the cracks and believed we were all set.

A year went by with no further issues. But when spring came again, we were back to square one. We ripped out the carpet again and called a company to help us clean up the water damage.

Long story short, we eventually found a man with a plan.

The good news was that he realized pretty quickly what our real problem was and knew how to fix it. The bad news was, his solution involved digging up our whole back yard and starting over again.

Now, I’m a long-term strategy kind of girl. So I knew in my heart of hearts that digging everything up and starting over again would eventually leave us with a stronger, better home than we had at the time.

But that doesn’t mean that making the decision to rip out most of our flowers, bushes, and greenery was easy. I felt stuck. I was sad. I was worried about whether this big plan would actually work.

Many entrepreneurs experience a similar “stuck” feeling when trying to grow a business that isn’t in alignment with our goals and values.

We can tell that our business isn’t as strong as it could be. We can see water seeping in, and we recognize that this isn’t a problem that a little bit of sealant is going to fix.

Maybe you know you’ve got a few good things in place—but ultimately, you feel like the good pieces of your brand are just bandaids to cover up the fact that your foundation is falling apart.

But the idea of digging everything up and starting over? That can be absolutely terrifying.

what to do when it's time pivot and shift your brand

If you’re trying to find the courage to shift your brand and realign your business, I can help you develop a plan to keep the best parts of your brand … and dig up the rest.

When I explained to our contractor that I was upset about losing so many of my backyard flowers and plants, he helped me come up with a way to spare my daylilies and peonies. Getting to hold onto a few favorite flowers made digging up everything else so much easier.

Similarly, I can help you cherry-pick the components of your brand that are working well and identify the cleanest way to pivot your brand so you can create a business that’s in better alignment with your current values.

How does this work? As a brand coach, I help my clients …

  • Assess their current business mission and goals.
  • Create a coaching plan and use frameworks to grow and scale their business according to the mission and goals we identified in the previous step.
  • Take action with accountability and growth measures to make sure their plan is repeatable and gets them results.
